Fall 2022 Central Region NATS Conference and Auditions

The Fall 2022 conference includes two rounds of college/university-and-older student auditions (NATS categories 5 and above) in person, with both rounds on Friday, October 21. Finals will be held on Saturday morning, October 22. The Central Region will present a Lifetime Achievement Award as well. This streamlined conference also includes six research presentations. American soprano (and Illinois native) Christine Brewer will present a performance class on Friday evening.
Registration for student auditions opens on September 20.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., Friday, October 21 in the Larsen Fine Arts Center at Olivet Nazarene University. (Campus map)
A judges’ meeting commences at 9 a.m., with first round of National Student Auditions adjudication commencing at 10 a.m.
Presentations/interest sessions occur throughout the day.
American soprano Christine Brewer presents a performance class at 8 p.m., featuring students from around the region.
Tali Allen, Director of Education at The Muny in St. Louis, guides a conversation and shares her approach to equity, inclusion and access through arts educational programming at 8.30 a.m., Saturday, October 22.
The finals adjudication starts at 9.30 a.m., kicking off with the recognition of the Central Region Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Central Region 2022 conference is open to all who have registered, either as teachers or as participants in the National Student Auditions.

To register, log in to nats.org, click on your email address in the top right corner, and scroll down to the green NATS AUDITIONS REGISTRATION button. All students must be registered solely by their sponsoring teacher.
Individual registration for attending teachers is $35. Registration is $35 for each student who is being adjudicated.
NATS members wishing to attend and adjudicate but not send students may register at no cost!
Individual registration for teachers registering students but not actually attending the conference and adjudicating is $75.
Conference presentations will be recorded. Virtual future access for those not attending the conference is also $35.

Kurt R. Hansen
Coordinator, voice and opera program at Northwestern University. Tenor Kurt Hansen is a specialist in oratorio, most notably the J. S. Bach Passions. He has performed as a soloist in Europe, South America, Asia, and the United States, including engagements with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Sir Georg Solti and Claudio Abbado, the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and Music of the Baroque. Also a frequent recitalist and performer in opera, Hansen has recorded on the Lyra label with Music of the Baroque and Colorado Mahlerfest.

Information on all categories eligible for National Student Auditions (high school age through graduate/doctoral student divisions).
Information on all other categories (pre-high school, avocational).
Information on the American Negro Spiritual category (for high school age and older).
Children, Youth, and High School (categories1 through 4 and AS3) video submission deadline is November 15, 2022. Adjudication of first and second round will be complete in mid-December, with the prize announcement on December 21.
Teachers will only pay one registration fee, even if entering students in on-line and in-person auditions. (Please note: the AuditionWare system will require you to pay a registration fee for the Children/Youth/High-School auditions, since this is technically a separate event. The Central Region will reimburse those fees after November 15 IF you registered students for the in-person conference.)
Registration fee for teachers, and entry fee per student for auditions, is $35. Teachers may enter students in all categories for which the student is prepared (for instance, a student may be in both a CL and an MT category, with payment of entry fee for each category).
Prize amounts range from first-place awards of $300 (category 12) to $150 for the children/youth/high-school categories, with the smallest award for third place set at $50.
