CALL FOR STUDENT RESEARCH POSTERS at the Third Annual Central Region Conference and Student Auditions

Students are “central” to the NATS Central Regional Conference and Student Auditions!  Students who register will be able to participate in both Student Auditions AND our Conference. In addition to participating in all the regular conference events, there are a variety of offerings especially for students and some exclusively for SNATS members! One unique opportunity is our Student Poster Paper Session.

All students of NATS members in the Central Region are invited to submit abstracts for presentation in Poster Paper format at the Third Annual Central Regional Conference, which will be held October 28 and 29, 2017 at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.  Topics for poster papers may include voice pedagogy, vocal repertoire, performance practice, musicological studies or any other topic related to the art and science of singing and the teaching and learning of singing. Projects may come from single students or may be group projects. Examples could include projects/papers from voice pedagogy or song literature courses, classical and musical theatre repertoire or performance practice, effective practice strategies, and recital programming.

Abstracts should be 500 words or less, and in Microsoft Word format. The abstract should give the Title of the project, identify the name or names of the presenters, and summarize or outline the project and the conclusions drawn. For guidance on writing an abstract, there are numerous online sources. A great, concise definition comes from the University of Southern California’s guidelines for an abstract: “An abstract summarizes, usually in one paragraph of 300 words or less, the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) the overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) the basic design of the study; 3) major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 4) a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.” A good place for more information about abstracts and research posters is: http://www.ncsu.edu/project/posters/index.html

The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on October 3. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to mitra.sadeghpour@uni.edu, with Student NATS Poster Session Abstract in the subject line. Posters selected by a panel of three readers will be shared in a public poster session on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017.
